Printing: - Multiple prints needed because you need a non-salty print. Turn in three non-salty prints on website. - Have all your stuff ready to go: materials: watercolor papers, brayer, Speedball block printing ink, branisher (O’Ryan calls it a flattener), Vocab: texture, value, direction, contour lines, salty/non-salty, negative space Landscapes/flowers/animals/cartoons: draw this if you don’t know what to draw. What you say on why you should care:-Carving is symbolic of "taking away the negative in life." -Carving is like "Getting away from the negative around you to show something beautiful." -Colors used can show meaning of what you want to say. -It's an opportunity to show happiness by removing the sad. How will you demonstrate you learned this:Monday, April 1: -students will continue carving their plates. Printing could start today. If you print and do not like it or need to modify the plate, clean it off and then carve more. Tuesday, April 2: -studio time to carve plate and do some printing. The goal is to present on website three non-salty prints. Block day: April 3/4 (Thursday) Students attending the field trip to Sante Fe need to be at the north parking lot with their overnight bag before 6am. -students in class: studio time working on printmaking. It takes time to print three non-salty images. Do not neglect the time. Friday, April 5: -post on your website under "Portfolio and Artist Statements" the three non-salty prints and type out your artist statement. What are you learning:All students will demonstrate full of understanding of the tempera batik project by posting on their online portfolios and writing an artist statement that explains what they learned. Afterwards, they will learn about the new project: printmaking and begin forming their own piece. What you said you will be learning: Techniques: - How to chip away at something slowly, to create something as a whole. - To create something new from a removal of a material… - New techniques: carving, rolling ink onto the plate (horizontal and vertical), - Recognize salty vs. non-salty prints (we want non-salty prints) Vocab: - Contrast: understanding how there is a blank space between colors when you print, - Contour lines: showing the surface of an object through lines (curved). - Value: showing a range of darks to lights through carving. Why is this relevant to you:You will tell me this. For the tempera batik, Mikayla Fisher wrote this: "The reason you paint over three times is to finalize your painting and to do your texture. Like an example is painting over three times and then doing your texture or designs. It relates to life because one moment you are so happy the next you are in a dark space basically depression. There is always going to be a light that is going to led out the dark which is like washing the black ink off your painting is the light of life leading you out of the dark. Students will finish their tempera batik project by posting a photo of the work and write up an artist statement under "Portfolio & Artist Statements". Need support writing? Click here. Block day, 3.6/7.19 -meditation -Students will review the upcoming project and write up as a family "What you are learning & why it's relevant to life." Click here to watch the presentation as it unfolds. -Afterwards, get started on your next project and what you want to create. Friday, 3.8.19 -Get moving on the printmaking project. Logistics: 1. Determine the subject matter. 2. Draw it out. 3. Get a plate and determine size. 4. Draw on or transfer to the plate using gel medium. 5. Reinforce with sharpie. 6. Begin carving using heat (iron). Monday-Friday, 3.11-15.19 -Studio time focusing on printmaking. -This will take you a while...follow the safety steps demonstrated by instructor: 1. Cut away from self. 2. Use plate for support when carving. 3. Heat up plate constantly to get it malleable. When it is cold, you increase the chance of cutting yourself. |
